The Sounders came into 2013 having never lost seven road games in a season.
Following Saturday’s 3-1 defeat in Houston, the team has already lost that many this year through just 12 games away from CenturyLink Field. That means there are still five trips to go.
I asked coach Sigi Schmid what he thinks about already setting a franchise record for most road losses within a season.
“That’s not a concern for me,” he said. “You win on the road; you lose on the road. Sometimes you have more difficult games on the road. We lost some games early in the season on the road, so it’s just one of those things. Records are made to be broken, so you’re going to have a season where you win more games and you’re going to have a season where you lose more games.”
The remaining road games are Aug. 31 at Columbus, Sept. 21 at Los Angeles Galaxy, Oct. 5 at Colorado, Oct. 13 at Portland and Oct. 19 at Dallas.
Here is a look at how the Sounders have done on the road season by season:

What do you make of the road woes from a franchise that historically has been one of the best away from home since joining the league?
