The Sounders were a bit shorthanded in Houston, as has been documented, but they might be at full strength — or close to it — heading into Sunday’s highly anticipated home game against rival Portland.
Leading scorer Obafemi Martins is expected to be back from a sprained ankle and personal trip away. Fellow forward Eddie Johnson will be back from his one-game suspension. Midfielder Brad Evans will also be able to start since he won’t be coming off a midweek national-team game in Bosnia.
“Right there is three guys that are normal starters for us who should help,” said coach Sigi Schmid.
Now the million-dollar question: How does Sounders FC field a starting lineup with everyone available, including Clint Dempsey as a starter?
Does the formation become a 4-3-3? A 4-4-2 diamond? Does Johnson move to the wing? Is Lamar Neagle the odd man out?
I wouldn’t be surprised to see the latter two play out, but we’ll see what Schmid has to say about it this week.
Until then, what do you think? What is your ideal starting lineup going forward?
