It’s a overcast, rainy Sunday evening here at CenturyLink Field, fitting conditions I feel for a celebration of Pacific Northwest soccer.
The Sounders are hosting the Portland Timbers in the latest edition of a rivalry that dates to 1975.
Seattle is coming in on a nine-game home unbeaten streak dating to the last game between these two teams on March 16. The Timbers have been one of the best teams in the league all season.
Regarding some personnel issues: forward Obafemi Martins (sprained ankle) will be a game-time decision for the home team. Guys like Osvaldo Alonso and Djimi Traore were also limited during the week. All eyes will be on if Will Johnson (shoulder bruise) is ready to return for the visitors.
There’s also a watch on attendance as a crowd of 67,053 would set a new Pacific Northwest record for any game.
I’ll post lineups here when they become available.
