David Estrada scores late equalizer as reserves earn 2-2 tie against Vancouver

It was a Cascadia-filled weekend here, as Seattle hosted Vancouver in an MLS Reserve League game Monday at Starfire Stadium.

The Sounders weren’t able to follow up Sunday’s win over Portland with another, but they did salvage a 2-2 tie against the Whitecaps on a stoppage-time equalizer David Estrada. Seattle (2-6-2 in the reserve season) also got a goal from rookie forward Eriq Zavaleta. Fellow rookie Dylan Remick left the game in the first half due to injury.

Vancouver’s goals came from Marco Bustos and Carlyle Mitchell, but perhaps the more interesting news was veteran goalkeeper Joe Cannon playing the final minutes of the game at forward. The 38-year-old, who has fallen out of the mix with the first team, was the only substitute available when Sam Adekugbe sustained a late injury.

You never know what you’ll see at those reserve games.

The Sounders final home game of the reserve season is Sept. 14 against Real Salt Lake, rescheduled from earlier in the year, and the final game is Oct. 14 at Portland.
