Once again, apologies for not being able to cover the only Sounders practice this week, as I had Mariners duty on Wednesday.
Coach Sigi Schmid did speak with 950 KJR-AM, though, as you can listen to that interview above.
— He said he’s had a lot of good memories at CenturyLink Field, but seeing it absolutely full for Sunday’s rivalry game against the Timbers “might have been the most special feeling of all.”
— He definitely seemed irked by comments by Portland coach Caleb Porter before the game indicating the Timbers are more about team and the Sounders are more about talented individuals.
— He said the Sounders have to take advantage of catching the Crew at the right time, with star Federico Higuain suspended.
— He said there’s a good chance Seattle will lose all three of its USMNT players (Clint Dempsey, Eddie Johnson and Brad Evans) for the next round of World Cup qualifying. The trio would leave the team after the game in Columbus and miss home games against Chivas USA and Chicago. U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann will announce his squad later this afternoon, at about 12:30 p.m. on SportsCenter.
