Welcome to CenturyLink Field, where the Sounders haven’t lost in their last 10 games at 7-0-3.
Seattle is also unbeaten in its last 10 against tonight’s opponent, Chivas USA, dating to 2009 at 6-0-4.
There are some other notes in this one, like the Sounders will jump up to the best points-per-game average in MLS with a win (hard to believe they were in last place after a worst-ever start just five months ago). The Sounders have also never earned six wins over a seven-stretch within a single season.
The hosts will be shorthanded, though, as Clint Dempsey and Eddie Johnson are with the U.S. men’s national team. Brad Evans, Shalrie Joseph and Steve Zakuani are injured. Leo Gonzalez is serving a one-game suspension for his red card Saturday.
Chivas USA, for its part, has lost just once its in last four games (1-1-2). Erick Torres has also been perhaps the league’s hottest players with four goals in his last two games.
I’ll post lineups here when they become available:
Sounders FC lineup: GK Michael Gspurning, D DeAndre Yedlin, D Patrick Ianni, D Djimi Traore, D Zach Scott, M Mauro Rosales, M Osvaldo Alonso, M Servando Carrasco, M Marc Burch, F Lamar Neagle, F David Estrada
Sounders FC bench: GK Marcus Hahnemann, M Alex Caskey, M Blair Gavin, D Jhon K. Hurtado, F/M Philip Lund, M Andy Rose, F Eriq Zavaleta
Chivas USA lineup: GK Dan Kennedy; D Marco Delgado, D Bobby Burling, D Mario de Luna, D Carlos Borja; M Carlos Alvarez, M Edgar Mejia, M Oswaldo Minda, M Bryan de la Fuente; F Julio Morales, F Erick Torres
Chivas USA lineup: GK Patrick McLain, F Matthew Fondy, M Gabriel Farfan, M Josue Soto, D Steven Purdy, M Eric Avila, F Tristan Bowen
NOTES: Looks like Obafemi Martins failed his pregame fitness test. He was out on the field about 30 minutes before the game with fitness coach Dave Tenney. Sigi Schmid came out to talk to them afterward, and the result is Martins missing his fourth-straight game. David Estrada is making his third start of the season, his first since May 8. Zach Scott fills in for the suspended Leo Gonzalez at left back and Marc Burch plays left mid. Servando Carrasco starts at center mid for the first time since July 20. Lamar Neagle pushes up to forward. This, of course, is Seattle’s 29th lineup in 30 games in all competitions.
