Sounders FC vs. Chicago Fire, lineups

chicago home 2013

Back again after just three days, and it’s a familiar story for the Sounders.

They are on a long unbeaten streak at home (8-0-3) and versus tonight’s opponent, Chicago (4-0-3 in MLS, 5-0-3 in all competitions). Seattle has won three in a row and needs another victory to stay tops in the league in points per game.

This wraps up a stretch of three games in eight days. Can the Sounders secure all nine points?

Forward Obafemi Martins is the pregame question coming into this one as he was deemed a game-time decision having missed the past four games with a sprained ankle. Leo Gonzalez will be back from suspension, but national teams call-ups (Clint Dempsey and Eddie Johnson) and injuries (Brad Evans, Shalrie Joseph and Steve Zakuani) are still affecting the roster.

Chicago is without a couple due to international duty, too, in Joel Lindpere (Estonia) and Arevalo Rios (Uruguay).

I’ll post lineups here when they become available:

*     *     *

Sounders FC lineup: GK Michael Gspurning, D DeAndre Yedlin, D Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, D Djimi Traore, D Leo Gonzalez, M Mauro Rosales, M Osvaldo Alonso, M Andy Rose, M Marc Burch, F Lamar Neagle, F Obafemi Martins

Sounders FC bench: GK Marcus Hahnemann, D Zach Scott, D Patrick Ianni, M Servando Carrasco, M Alex Caskey, F/M David Estrada, F Eriq Zavaleta

Chicago Fire lineup: GK Sean Johnson; D Jalil Anibaba, D Austin Berry, D Bakary Soumare, D Gonzalo Segares; M Alex, M Logan Pause, M Jeff Larentowicz, M Dilly Duka; F Chris Rolfe, F Mike Magee

Chicago Fire bench: GK Paolo Tornaghi, D Hunter Jumper, M Wells Thompson, M Daniel Paladini, F/M Patrick Nyarko, F Quincy Amarikwa, F Juan Luis Anangono

NOTES: Obafemi Martins is back in the lineup after missing four games with a sprained ankle. It’s a nice boost for a Sounders team depleted up front. I also wonder if this is going to be the team’s first-choice defense going forward as Leo Gonzalez returns from suspension and Jhon Kennedy Hurtado makes his 100th league appearance for the team. Andy Rose comes in for Servando Carrasco, earning his sixth start of the year and first since July 3. Oh yeah, this is Seattle’s 30th lineup in 31 games in all competitions.
