Things don’t look so bad for the Sounders, eh?
Hard to believe earlier editions of this recurring feature had Seattle at the very bottom, because four-straight wins has the team in a season-best position of second place with the possibility of first with a win in Friday’s best-in-the-west clash against Real Salt Lake. Oh yeah, that points-per-game stat I like to bring up, well no one is better.
Expect power rankings leaguewide this week to have the Sounders at the top or close to it, and the Supporters’ Shield seems a more realistic goal every week.
Crazy that since an 0-3-2 start, Seattle has averaged about 2.1 points per game over the last five months.
Pretty good, but the last three wins have come against below-the-line teams not currently in a playoff position. The Sounders have often been criticized for being unable to win the big game — fair or not — and they have a few coming up, on national television, of course.
Here is a look at the upcoming schedule:
Sept. 13 — vs. Real Salt Lake (NBCSN)
Sept. 21 — at Los Angeles Galaxy (NBCSN)
Sept. 29 — vs. New York Red Bulls (ESPN)
Oct. 5 — at Colorado Rapids (NBCSN)
Oct. 9 — vs. Vancouver (KONG)
