My MLS power rankings — Week 28

Here are some other power rankings leaguewide from ESPN.com, SI.com and MLSsoccer.com.

*     *     *

Team (prev. rank) Comment
1. Real Salt Lake (2) Holds off charging Seattle for the top spot due to a pair of convincing wins head-to-head
2. Sounders FC (3) No better chance to stake its claim as best in MLS than by beating RSL at home Friday
3. L.A. Galaxy (1) Another team hit hard by USMNT call-ups with Landon Donovan, Omar Gonzalez
4. Montreal (4) Marco Di Vaio named Player of the Week again after his league-leading 16th, 17th goals
5. N.Y. Red Bulls (5) Three of its next four are home, but the other is a long Sept. 29 trip to CenturyLink Field
6. Sporting K.C. (6) Dom Dwyer scored 22 goals on loan with third-tier Orlando City; can it translate to MLS?
7. Portland (7) Will Johnson scored in his first game back from a shoulder injury, a 4-0 win vs. Toronto
8. Colorado (8) Edson Buddle was the hero against his former team, netting a crucial winner against LA
9. FC Dallas (14) Jair Benitez scored one of the goals of the year, a perfect chip from just inside midfield
10. New England (9) Diego Fagundez might not shoot his age, but 10 goals for an 18-year-old is pretty amazing
11. San Jose (13) Unbeaten in its last 13 games at home, best this year in MLS, including six wins in a row
12. Philadelphia (10) Has been outscored 6-1 in its past four games, but has somehow managed two points
13. Chicago (11) Trade with L.A. for Mike Magee has been lopsided: Magee (9G, 3A), Robbie Rogers (1A)
14. Houston (12) Has gone 0-3-1 since a big win against Seattle, having been outscored a ridiculous 12-2
15. Vancouver (15) Picked the wrong time for a four-game winless streak; playoff hopes are dwindling
16. Columbus (16) Put on a party for USA-Mexico in World Cup qualifying, but it hasn’t been as fun in MLS
17. Chivas USA (17) Would be first in the West eliminated from playoff contention with a loss or tie this week
18. Toronto FC (18) Raised eyebrows by trading Maximiliano Urruti to Portland just 24 days after signing him
19. D.C. United (19) Crazy to think the team still has a chance at a major trophy in the Open Cup final Oct. 1
