There can’t be many players in the world on a hotter streak than Fredy Montero.
The Sounders FC forward scored his sixth goal in four league games while on loan with Sporting Lisbon in Sunday’s 2-0 win against Olhanense. He might have benefited from lackadaisical defense and a missed offside call, but it counts just the same as he leads the Portuguese Primeira Liga in scoring.
Counting Montero’s last two games with Colombia’s Millonarios, I believe he’s scored in six straight games with nine goals in that span. He did score in five in a row once with the Sounders.
There is another player with six goals early on in the European season. You might have heard of him. Lionel Messi. (Not that I’m comparing the two)
It’s been a pretty special run.
