Despite the 1-1 tie against the Los Angeles Galaxy, the Sounders did suffer a loss Saturday when it was revealed Clint Dempsey has a hamstring strain.
The forward, who didn’t make the trip, is believed to have suffered the injury during a closed practice Thursday.
“Hopefully he’ll be back for the New York game,” said coach Sigi Schmid, referencing a Sept. 29 home game against the Red Bulls, “but it’s just basically something we have to see. … We have to see how he recovers now over the next three to four days.”
For clarification, I asked again if Dempsey wasn’t being ruled out of the next game.
“Yeah, we have to see how he does,” Schmid added. “Obviously he’s getting treatment up in Seattle right now, so we’ll check on Tuesday and see where’s he at and monitor him the rest of the week.”
In some other injury news, Steve Zakuani was back on the bench for the first time since April 20 due to a groin injury that led to sports hernia surgery.
Here was what Schmid said when asked if Zakuani is going to be available the rest of the foreseeable future: “I don’t think there’s a ton of minutes there, but I think there’s some minutes that makes sense.”
