PORTLAND—Welcome to Jeld-Wen Field on a beautiful Sunday here in the Rose City.
Big game here between the Sounders and Timbers. The Cascadia Cup is on the line and would go to Seattle with a win (otherwise it goes to Vancouver). A playoff berth is also on the line for the visitors with a win.
An issue to watch for the Sounders will be starting goalkeeper. There have been some indications that backup Marcus Hahnemann might be pushed into the job after Michael Gspurning has allowed nine goals the past two games, but we’ll see.
Obafemi Martins and Leo Gonzalez are the main injury questions coming in for a Seattle team that will be without Eddie Johnson (groin), Zach Scott (suspension) and Brad Evans (national team).
It also looks like we could have a big tifo here from the Timbers Army.
I’ll posts lineups here when they become available.
Sounders FC lineup: GK Marcus Hahnemann, D DeAndre Yedlin, D Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, D Patrick Ianni, D Leo Gonzalez, M Mauro Rosales, M Osvaldo Alonso, M Adam Moffat, M Alex Caskey, F Lamar Neagle, F Clint Dempsey
Sounders FC bench: GK Michael Gspurning, D Marc Burch, D Djimi Traore, M Steve Zakuani, M Andy Rose, F/M David Estrada, F Eriq Zavaleta
Portland lineup: GK Donovan Ricketts, D Jack Jewsbury, D Futty Danso, D Pa Modou Kah, D Michael Harrington, M Diego Chara, M Kalif Alhassan, M Will Johnson, F Jose Valencia, F Maximiliano Urruti, F Darlington Nagbe
Portland bench: GK Milos Kocic, D Andrew Jean-Baptiste, F Sal Zizzo, M Brad Ring, M Diego Valeri, M Ben Zemanski, F Frederic Piquionne
NOTES: The big news, of course, is Gspurning being benched in favor of Hahnemann. This is the first time in Sounders history that has happened to their No. 1 goalkeeper. There are a few other changes as Leo Gonzalez and Clint Dempsey return to the starting lineup. Dempsey hadn’t started since Aug. 31 in Columbus, Gonzalez since Sept. 21 in L.A. Alex Caskey makes his first start since June 8. Adam Moffat back in, too. Obafemi Martins (groin) doesn’t travel. Safe to say, this is the team’s 36th lineup in 37 games. Big news for Portland is Valeri being on the bench (he has eight goals and 12 assists this season).
