SI report: Owner Joe Roth growing impatient, voices support for coach Sigi Schmid

The Sounders’ four-game losing streak, their first as a franchise, has raised a lot of questions — not the least of which surround the job security of coach Sigi Schmid.

Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl got in touch with majority owner Joe Roth over the weekend on the subject. Here was what Roth said via text message to Wahl:

“This guy is the winningest coach in MLS history. I don’t think he’s at fault here.”

The report has more thoughts from Roth during the team’s nosedive, and needless to say, the boss isn’t happy having to rely on other results to clinch a playoff berth after having been favored to win the Supporters’ Shield not long ago.

“No excuses,” Roth wrote to Wahl. “Every team has injuries and national team call-ups. We haven’t got it done. I hope for the fans’ sake and the players’ we turn it around. And soon!”
