Sounders FC vs. Portland Timbers, lineups

timbers away playoff

PORTLAND—Welcome to Jeld-Wen Field, where it’s a chilly Thursday night, as you might expect in November.

The 2013 season ends here for either Sounders FC or Portland in the second leg of a Western Conference semifinal series. The Timbers hold a 2-1 advantage after winning Saturday’s first leg at CenturyLink Field.

Reminder: Kickoff will be at about 8:23 p.m. due to the NBC Sports Network broadcast. Any one-goal win by the Sounders will result in 30 minutes of extra time. Penalty kicks, if needed, will follow afterward.

In some pregame notes, Portland hasn’t allowed a goal here in 450 minutes (that’s five-straight shutouts, including one of Seattle on Oct. 13). The Timbers are on a 11-0-4 home unbeaten streak, a 6-0-3 unbeaten streak overall. Trends the visitors will look to break.

For the Sounders, the big question is if Obafemi Martins will be available after having missed the past five games with a groin injury. He has practiced this week and traveled with the teams, so the expectation is that he will at least be on the bench. But we’ll see.

Oh yeah, goalkeeper, too.

As always, I’ll post lineups here when they become available and follow with a live chat at game time.

Sounders FC lineup: GK Michael Gspurning, D DeAndre Yedlin, D Djimi Traore, D Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, D Marc Burch, M Brad Evans, M Osvaldo Alonso, M Clint Dempsey, M Adam Moffat, F Shalrie Joseph, F Eddie Johnson

Sounders FC bench: GK Marcus Hahnemann, D Zach Scott, D Patrick Ianni, M Andy Rose, M Mauro Rosales, F David Estrada, F Obafemi Martins

Portland lineup: GK Donovan Ricketts; D Michael Harrington, D Pa Modou Kah, D Futty Danso, D Jack Jewsbury; M Will Johnson, M  Diego Valeri, M Diego Chara; F Darlington Nagbe, F Ryan Johnson, F Rodney Wallace

Portland bench: GK Milos Kocic, F Sal Zizzo, M Kalif Alhassan, M Ben Zemanski, J Jose Valencia, D Andrew Jean-Baptiste, F Maximiliano Urruti

NOTES: This is 36 out of 37 in MLS games for the Sounders, regular season and playoffs, 40 out of 41 in all competitions. Interesting move for the Sounders playing Shalrie Joseph up top, at least that’s how the lineups came to us. Lamar Neagle is, of course, suspended and Obafemi Martins was just deemed fit enough for the bench. In other notes, Michael Gspurning is back in goal after his red-card suspension and Leo Gonzalez is inactive. For Portland, Maximiliano Urruti is active for the first time since injuring his hamstring Oct. 13 against Seattle.
