We’ve already known Sounders FC will be heading to South Carolina in preseason. They’re set to participate in the Carolina Challenge Cup in Charleston from Feb. 22 to March 1, 2014.
Now it looks like the team will be headed to Arizona, as well. A report from the Arizona Daily Star notes Seattle is set to play an exhibition against rival Portland on Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson. I’m sure more details will be made available once they’re all settled.
Tucson is a familiar location, of course, as the Sounders trained there before the 2013 season and won the Desert Diamond Cup.
Elsewhere, about 5,000 miles away, it appears Fredy Montero could soon be called up by the Colombian national team. The forward, on loan with Sporting Lisbon, has scored nine league goals this season in Portugal, which has certainly caught the attention of national team coach Jose Pekerman.
Montero hasn’t been called up since 2009, but it appears the door for a World Cup spot is still open.
