Here are the highlights from the U.S. men’s national team’s 1-0 road loss Tuesday in Austria, the final game of 2013. Coach Jurgen Klinsmann‘s group finished the year with a 16-4-3 record, the most wins and best winning percentage (.761) in federation history.
Combine that with winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup and finishing first in the final stage of World Cup qualifying and it’s been a pretty good year, these last two friendlies notwithstanding.
Other records this year were a plus-28 goal differential and average 2.22 goals per game.
In your Sounders involvement Tuesday, Brad Evans sat out with a groin injury (not expected to be serious) and Eddie Johnson came on for the final 34 minutes off the bench. EJ’s 17 international games this year were tied for most on the team. Evans had a personal-best 10 in 2013.
The next big thing to look out for is the FIFA World Cup draw on Dec. 6.
