Reign FC announced Monday that it has signed three defenders to new contracts for the 2014 season: Lauren Barnes, Kiersten Dallstream and Kate Deines. Seattle has options on all three for 2015.
Per club and league policy, financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Barnes started all 22 games last season, one of two Reign players to do so. She led the team with 1,950 minutes played — missing only 30 — and was named the club’s Defender of the Year. (Here is Laura Harvey, general manager and coach, in a news release: “I couldn’t be more excited to have Barnes back on the team. She was invaluable to have in our backline in 2013. She has the ability to make others around her better and will be a vital part of our team going forward.”)
Dallstream started 14 of 20 games last season for 1,296 minutes. She signed as a discovery player in March having previously played for the Boston Breakers and Sky Blue FC in Women’s Professional Soccer (Harvey: “Kiersten had a breakout 2013 season, proving she could play at this level. Her versatility, athleticism, and pace caused the opposition problems all season. We hope to see more of this in 2014.”)
Deines, a local product, started 11 of her 17 games for 979 minutes. The Issaquah native and former University of Washington standout signed in February having also played for the Atlanta Beat and Sounders Women (Harvey: “Kate is a local girl who has proven to be a favorite of the fans. She had a tough 2013 season due to injuries, but she finished the season strong and we hope this form can continue into 2014.”)
