Washington senior Taylor Peay (above) has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy, which is awarded to the top player in college soccer.
The three finalists will be announced Dec. 12 with the winner being named Jan. 10.
Peay, a 6-foot-2 defender from Salt Lake City, is a co-captain for the Huskies, who won the Pac-12 this season and are the top seed remaining in the NCAA tournament as the quarterfinals are set to kick off over the weekend. The first team all-conference selection has started all 21 games, scoring six goals and leading a defense that has allowed just 16 goals all season.
In an MLS connection, Peay played for Real Salt Lake youth teams. He has also played for the Sounders FC U-23 team along with fellow semifinalist Aodhan Quinn of Akron.
Other semifinalists from the conference were Leo Stolz (UCLA) and Steve Birnbaum (Cal).
