Sounders FC’s very first draft pick, midfielder Steve Zakuani, is no longer a part of the team. The 25-year-old fan favorite was selected by rival Portland in the first stage of the MLS Re-Entry Draft on Thursday.

Injuries limited Zakuani’s availability to about half of the five years he spent in Seattle, but his 17 league goals are still tied for third-most in franchise history.

Zakuani’s departure also means the Sounders are down to five “originals” from the inaugural game in 2009 — at least those who have stayed here the whole time — and there are still three months to go before opening day of the next season.

(Note: Leo Gonzalez was signed midway through the 2009 season, Lamar Neagle has come and gone a couple times)
