Abby Wambach goal voted U.S. Soccer’s best moment, USWNT’s All-Time Best XI unveiled

We’re approaching the end of U.S. Soccer’s centennial year, which has come with a number of honors and awards and celebrations.

Recently fans voted on the best moment of the past 100 years, and the winner? Abby Wambach‘s unforgettable 122th-minute equalizer against Brazil in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Women’s World Cup — posted above, in case you missed it. The U.S. went on to advance on penalty kicks but eventually lost to Japan in the final, also on penalty kicks.

Second in the voting was Landon Donovan‘s winner against Algeria in the 2010 World Cup.

The federation has also released the all-time Best XI for the U.S. women’s national team (the men’s team is coming out Friday):

Goalkeeper — Briana Scurry, 1994-2008
Defender — Brandi Chastain, 1988-2004
Defender — Joy Biefeld (Fawcett), 1987-2004
Defender — Carla Werden (Overbeck), 1988-2000
Defender — Christie Rampone (Pearce), 1997-present
Midfielder — Michelle Akers, 1985-2000
Midfielder — Julie Foudy, 1988-2004
Midfielder — Kristine Lilly, 1987-2010
Forward — Mia Hamm, 1987-2004
Forward — Alex Morgan, 2010-present
Forward — Abby Wambach, 2001-present

Full voting results are posted a bit lower, where Biefeld (Fawcett) and Hamm were unanimous choices. Akers and Lilly were one vote short. Local product and current No. 1 goalkeeper Hope Solo is easily the biggest name left off. Morgan being on the team at 24 years old is noteworthy, as well.
