The NWSL has announced the order for the league’s college draft on Jan. 17. After all of Reign FC’s dealings in the offseason, the team has three picks:
Round 1, No. 7 overall (acquired in trade with Portland)
Round 2, No. 17 overall (acquired in trade with Kansas City)
Round 4, No. 30 overall (natural pick)
No less than seven other draft picks were once held by Seattle, but several trades since the end of last season led to a lot of movement. Here is the full order.
The draft will start at 7 a.m. PT at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America convention in Philadelphia, the same location as the Jan. 16 MLS SuperDraft. The order was originally set as a reverse of the teams’ 2013 finish, but expansion Houston will jump with the No. 2 overall pick in the first round and then the first picks in each subsequent round (there are four rounds total).
Here are some rules from a news release:
Teams will have five minutes during which to make their selection in first round and then three minutes in each subsequent round. Each club will also have one five-minute timeout per round, which may be used for further discussion, rule clarification, or trade discussion at any time in that round.
