The Sounders will not be replacing the FieldTurf at CenturyLink Field ahead of the 2014 MLS season. That means the turf will go into a third season.
You might remember the previous turf was also in place for three seasons (2009-2011), but the team admitted that was one too many in that instance.
Adrian Hanauer, part owner and general manager, explained the reasoning behind the decision this year.
“Our intentions are to replace the field every 2-3 years or whenever it is needed,” he wrote in an email. “The field crew, the Sounders and the Seahawks continually assess the quality of the field and we believe that the field is still in top condition. We will assess the field again following our upcoming season.”
