The U.S. women’s national team played its first game of 2014 Friday, and a 1-0 win over rival Canada had an unmistakable Reign FC influence.
Forward Sydney Leroux scored the winner in the 78th minute (she has 25 goals in 44 games), goalkeeper Hope Solo made one save to record her 68th career shutout (three behind federation leader Briana Scurry), defender Stephanie Cox played the whole game, and midfielder Megan Rapinoe started and played 88 minutes.
Definitely something to keep in mind as the NWSL season nears.
The crowd of 20,862 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas, was the largest home crowd in more than 10 years. The USWNT is unbeaten in 78-straight games at home.
The U.S. faces Russia next on Feb. 8 and 12.
