UPDATE — Asked for comment, a Sounders FC spokesman said: “It’s a rumor.”
There have been a couple tweets Tuesday, one from Phil Schoen of beIN Sports and one from Mike Standish of Total MLS, indicating that the Sounders could be lining up the summer acquisition of forward Didier Drogba.
The move would reportedly come after Drogba finishes the season with Turkey’s Galatasaray. The former Chelsea star and Ivorian international would be 36 years old.
One would assume Drogba would be a designated player, meaning there would have to be a corresponding move regarding one of Seattle’s current DPs: Clint Dempsey, Osvaldo Alonso and, perhaps most likely, Obafemi Martins.
I haven’t heard anything from the Sounders on the Drogba rumors.
