Marco Pappa: ‘I’m so happy the Sounders thought about me.’

Reporters got a few minutes with Sounders FC’s newest addition, Marco Pappa, after practice. We, of course, had a story on the midfielder run last week, but here is what he had to say Wednesday:

*     *     *

(What’s your impression of Seattle?) “I’ve been here a couple times before when I played with Chicago and I know a little bit about the city. We came back from Tucson and had a couple days off, so I tried to see a little bit around the city. It’s a really nice city. I’m pretty happy to be here.”

(How do you feel about joining the Sounders?) “I’m so happy the Sounders thought about me. I was playing in Holland and wasn’t having a good time, so I decided to come back to MLS and have games. I’m so happy to be now with the Sounders. I hope to make good things for the team, special things, and see if we can achieve our goals together.”

(If you had your choice, would you have felt more comfortable going back to Chicago?) “I mean you know how the league is. We know the rules. I played almost five years for Chicago, and for sure it’s a club that is always a part of my career. In football you have to make decisions, also, and I know Seattle in the times I’ve been in MLS, they have Open Cup finals and trophies, so I think they have a team to fight for important things in the league. So I’m pretty happy to be a part of the Sounders.”

(What do you think about wearing No. 10?) “Pressure, eh? Normally I wear No. 16, but Estrada is wearing it now. They give me No. 10, and No. 10 has special responsibilities on the field, but I’m still just a part of (the team) with all the other players. I tell you, I hope I can bring some skill to the team.”

(What have your seen from your teammates and how have you guys been able to come together as a group?) “First, like you say, we have to think like a group and we have to think about results. As a player, I hope I can be a small part of the results.”
