Wednesday notes: Danny O’Rourke joins training camp, first cuts made

The Sounders just wrapped up their first practice back home since returning from Arizona. Here are a few quick notes (with more to come throughout the day):

*     *     *

— First off, MLS veteran Danny O’Rourke has joined camp along with trialist Omar Browne. Those no longer with the team are draft pick Stefano Rijssel and trialists Long Tan, Dzenan Catic, Tarek Morad and Jason Morrison.

— New addition Marco Pappa has a jersey number. He’ll wear No. 10, worn most recently by Mauro Rosales and earlier by Freddie Ljungberg. It is, of course, the traditional number of a team’s top playmaker. “Pressure, eh?” Pappa joked.

Brad Evans and DeAndre Yedlin had their first local practice since joining camp in Arizona following national team duty. When asked about the changes in the offseason, Evans said flatly: “I’ll be honest with you, it’s a better locker room than it was in the past.” It’s a familiar tune to what we’ve heard the past few months, though Evans noted a better feeling within the team doesn’t guarantee results.

— Yedlin said things don’t feel different after earning his first international appearance. He had a lot of praise for Evans for helping him with the national team even while they were competing at the same position.

— Coach Sigi Schmid said the last handful of roster spots on the team are going to be hard to earn and noted having a USL PRO team/affiliate next year will help with managing the reserves.

— The team looks to be pretty healthy. Leo Gonzalez looked to be practicing in full or close to it. Will Bates was out, and Eriq Zavaleta was off to the side for a little bit, but otherwise there weren’t many issues.

— Lastly, Reign FC has signed its first-round pick, Amanda Frisbie, to continue its week of announcements.
