Update: U.S. Soccer denies reports that the Ukraine friendly has been canceled

Update 7:20 p.m. — U.S. Soccer has released a statement denying reports that the friendly has been canceled: “The Football Federation of Ukraine confirmed that their team will travel to Cyprus and the match will proceed as scheduled.”

A report out of Austria on Monday claims the U.S. men’s national team’s friendly against Ukraine, a game set for Wednesday in Cyprus, has been canceled. The post on Football.ua (internet translation here) appears to cite federation president Anatoliy Konkov. Here is another report from Reuters in English.

Should that be the case, the Sounders could be getting Clint Dempsey back a couple days earlier than expected. A spokesman said the team is looking into the matter.

The Ukrainian national team is reportedly refusing to travel to the political turmoil in the country.
