USWNT loses — again — in Algarve Cup

For the first time since 2001, the U.S. women’s national team has lost back-to-back games, breaking a streak of 270 games without a losing streak, according to ESPN Stats.

Wow.

The U.S. lost to Denmark, 5-3, Monday in the Algarve Cup, this coming off a 1-0 defeat to Sweden late last week. After allowing a federation-worst five goals, coach Tom Sermanni‘s side will be in the tournament’s lower placing games Wednesday after finishing last in Group B. Ouch.

A 3-0 halftime deficit was the worst for the USWNT on a couple fronts, both in margin and goals allowed, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Considering the U.S. tied Japan in the Algarve Cup opener, it is also the team’s first three-game winless streak since 2001.
