— None of the Toronto guys listed made the trip to Seattle, so consider all of them out for good.
— Osvaldo Alonso had been limited this week after suffering a bruised knee in the season opener. The midfielder was able to return to full training Friday. Asked how Alonso’s week went, coach Sigi Schmid said: “Good, good. We kept him to a pretty strict protocol, but he got through fine, participated fully in training today, so no problems.”
— A couple players that might need another week of training before they are able to go are defender Leo Gonzalez (offseason groin surgery) and forward/midfielder Tristan Bowen (quad strain).
— Schmid’s update on Gonzalez is similar to what we’ve heard the past week or so: “He just needs to get that final, little five-percent of sharpness and quickness back to be truly comfortable out there again.”
— Bowen trained in full on Friday but is unlikely to suit up against Toronto FC as he needs more practice time. Schmid was asked what he ultimately sees in the 23-year-old newcomer when healthy.
“Bowen is a another player where one of the things we wanted to do in the offseason was become a little faster, a little more athletic, in some areas a little younger, and Bowen provides that. He’s a guy who’s got great explosion, good quickness. He’s got a great shot on goal. He’s a guy who gives balls and moves right away, so he provides another element for us on the flank, and he’s comfortable on the left, he’s comfortable on the right, so it gives us another option. It’s very competitive, which is also a good situation because guys know they have to come out and perform.”
