Reign FC signs then trades Niki Cross to Washington for draft pick

The ever-busy Reign FC seemingly hadn’t made a move in a while, but that changed Tuesday when Seattle announced it had signed defender Niki Cross and immediately traded the former FC Bayern Munich player to the Washington Spirit for the second-round pick in the 2015 NWSL College Draft.

Here is Laura Harvey, Reign coach and general manager in a news release:

“Niki is an experienced player that we believe could have added defensive depth to our squad. However, Niki’s preference was to play on the east coast. With the additions of Amanda Frisbie, Carm Moscato and Kendall Fletcher and considering Niki would not have been available until the end of the German season in June, we felt we could comfortably accommodate Niki’s request while acquiring a valuable asset that will help our club in the future.”
