Punishment for Clint Dempsey might not be formally announced until Friday, it appears.
An MLS spokesperson confirmed to me in an email that decisions by the Disciplinary Committee are subject to appeal through the MLS Players Union, and if an appeal is made, a final decision might not come until Friday.
So while the Toronto Sun broke the news that Dempsey is facing a two-game suspension for actions in Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Toronto FC, the punishment still stands to be lessened upon appeal.
If no appeal is filed, an announcement could come Thursday.
The Sounders, as coach Sigi Schmid mentioned after practice, are hoping whatever resolution comes as quickly as possible since the team leaves for Montreal on Thursday, and it’s a difficult international trip that requires a connecting flight.
