‘Crazy-small sample size’: Sounders have never beaten, tied Montreal in MLS

It’s been a while, the 2008 USL playoffs to be exact, since the Sounders have beaten Montreal.

Sure, it’s just two games in MLS, but both games have gone the way of the Impact. Seattle lost the head-to-head matchup on the road in 2012, a 4-1 beating that included a Lamar Neagle goal by the Canadian side, and then in the 2013 home opener by a 1-0 score.

So is there anything to be gleaned from those two games? (a question I prefaced with the qualifier of it being a “crazy-small sample size”)

Said coach Sigi Schmid: “It’s a crazy-small sample size. You answered your own question. Sometimes it just happens that way. You flip a coin twice, sometimes it comes up head twice. What can you do?”
