The Montreal Impact has announced that Saturday’s game against Sounders FC has been postponed to 1 p.m. Sunday due to heavy snow expected in the area. The new start time is also weather permitting.
The game will now be aired on JOEtv and not Q13 FOX.
The roof at Olympic Stadium, the supposed indoor solution for winter home games, can only hold about an inch of snow, but Saturday’s forecast calls for about 4 to 6 inches.
Please keep in mind that events schedule for the main area of Olympic Stadium are permitted only if the three following conditions are all met:
1. At 24 hours before game time, no snow over 3cm or frozen rain over 3mm is expected for the duration of the event;
2. No accumulation of snow on the roof equivalent to 5 tons or accumulative weight on the suspension cables;
3. And, if there is no ice accumulation on the façade of the Tour or on its suspension cables.
Respecting these procedural conditions is for the safety of all spectators and employees at Olympic Stadium during an event in the main area.
These procedures, a direct result of the state of the roof at Olympic Stadium, have been established in conjunction with the Régie du bâtiment du Québec and under its approval. All promoters who hold events at Olympic Stadium are aware of these procedures and abide by the regulations.
Keep in mind that this is the first event to be postponed out of 21 held during the winter months since 1999, based on the procedural guidelines of the time.
