Sounders lose for the first time since 2010 after scoring the first goal (game notes)

40-0-11.

The streak is over. The Sounders have lost for the first time since 2010 when scoring first in MLS, a run of 51 games that was the longest active unbeaten streak in the league and closing in on New York’s record of 58 games (40-0-18).

The stat was something I’ve referenced on Twitter the past couple seasons whenever the Sounders scored first. But it is no more.

Here are some other postgame notes:

— The Sounders and American Red Cross raised $17,400 in disaster relief donations. Ownership will match $15,000, raising the total donation to $32,400.
— The Sounders are now 4-2-3 all-time against the Crew, having lost two straight at home.
— The Sounders have outscored the Crew 12-3 in first halves and would have matched the franchise’s best four-game start by holding up an early lead.
— The Sounders have lost two straight at home overall, having gone 1-3-2 in the last six regular-season games.
— The Sounders honored former NASL defender Mike England as part of the club’s 40th anniversary celebration.
— The Sounders’ five goals have been scored by five different players.
— The Sounders fell to 3-8-7 when playing down a man and 5-10-10 overall in any games they receive a red card.
— Kenny Cooper scored his first goal as a Sounder, building on his assist last game.
— Kenny Cooper now ranks 18th in MLS history with 73 goals.
— Obafemi Martins earned his team-high second assist.
— Obafemi Martins has a goal or assist in his last three games, though the team fell to 10-2-0 when he factors into a scoring play.
— Stefan Frei’s shutout streak of 214 minutes was longest in MLS this season.
— Leo Gonzalez became the fifth Sounder to make 100 appearances for the club.
— Michael Azira made his first start, building on his debut last game.
— Jalil Anibaba made his Sounders debut.
— Clint Dempsey has served his two-game suspension and will be available April 5 at Portland.
— Both teams wore black armbands in memory of former D.C. United midfielder Shawn Kuykendall.
— Columbus improved to 3-0 for the first time in team history.
— Columbus has gone 24 straight games without a tie.
— Justin Meram’s goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time is tied for the latest conceded by the Sounders.
— Federico Higuain had a goal and assist to up his total to 19 goals, 18 assists in 45 games for the Crew.
