UEFA Champions League semifinals set

They might not have been the pairings neutral fans were hoping for, but the semifinals matchups for the UEFA Champions League were drawn Friday. Favorites Bayern Munich and Real Madrid will face off in one (April 23 and 29) while Chelsea and Atletico Madrid will play in the other (April 22 and 30).

Most were likely hoping to see Bayern Munich and Real Madrid split up to set up a potential dream final, but there are still some good story-lines. In particular, star Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is actually playing on loan from — you guessed it — Chelsea.

It has provided enough drama in terms of whether or not he should play, or how much compensation Chelsea should get if he does, that UEFA had to release a statement on the matter.

Also, in the more local Champions League, Mexican clubs Cruz Azul and Toluca will meet for the CONCACAF title.
