Let’s face it: Clint Dempsey can’t be stopped right now. The Sounders FC superstar has five goals in the last two games, which has set a franchise record. In fact, it’s a run that the league hasn’t seen since Thierry Henry went for two goals, three goals and two goals in a ridiculous stretch in March 25-April 7 of 2012.
The previous Seattle mark for most goals in four games had been four, accomplished a couple times by Fredy Montero and once by David Estrada and Blaise Nkufo.
For those curious, the MLS record for goals in a single game is 5, set by Clint Mathis set Aug. 26, 2000 in the MetroStars 6-4 win against Dallas. Nine players have scored four goals in a game, most recently Jeff Cunningham on Aug. 1, 2009, in a 6-0 win by Dallas over Kansas City.
Clint Dempsey is the first @MLS player to score 5+ goals over a span of 2 games (and 6+ over 3 gms) since Thierry Henry in March–April 2012.
