Was Sounders FC’s Lamar Neagle lucky to avoid ejection in Dallas?

The latest episode of MLSsoccer.com’s Instant Replay was released Monday, and there were a few plays from the Sounders-FC Dallas game highlighted by host Simon Borg.

The most notable was a foul by Lamar Neagle in the first half that many felt might earn a second yellow card — thus an ejection. Referee Juan Guzman, who issued a whopping eight cautions in the game, elected to give the Federal Way native a verbal warning instead.

Watching live, it certainly looked like a yellow-card worthy tackle, but ultimately the context (e.g. a first half red card) is up to the discretion of the referee.

In the other plays reviewed by Borg, DeAndre Yedlin‘s foul in the penalty box is a no-doubter. Obafemi Martins‘ appeal for a penalty kick looks credible but not 100 percent a clear-cut foul to me.

How do you feel about the calls or non-calls? And with the Neagle play, was it proper handling or lucky for Seattle?
