Sounders are unbeaten against Chivas USA since 2009

Some say what’s past is prologue (actually, I think that was Shakespeare) and others say what’s past is pointless. So say what you will, but the Sounders haven’t lost to Chivas USA since 2009, a 7-0-4 run in MLS that includes five-straight wins.

Seattle’s seven wins are tied for second-most against an MLS opponent, having only beaten Colorado more times — eight. The run improves to 9-0-4 (and six wins in a row) if you include a pair of meetings in the U.S. Open Cup.

So does the history mean anything?

“Every game is a new game,” coach Sigi Schmid. “I know sometimes you have streaks against certain teams, positive and negative streaks, but we really don’t think about that when we go into the game. We think about, ‘Here’s the opponent this week. This is who they’re putting on field. This is who we’re putting on field. This is what we need to do to have success this week.’”

“No,” added Brad Evans. “I think it’s a different team. … You talk about Sounders 2.0, and it (seems like) a complete rebranding of that team a little bit — a new attitude, a new endeavor for them. Something that we might share in common. I think it’ll be a good battle. They’re at home; they want to make a statement. And we’re a good road team; we obviously want to prove that.”

Here is a look at the head-to-head:
