DeAndre Yedlin hoping to make good on Super Bowl bet this week

Some Twitter jousting between Sounders FC homegrown player DeAndre Yedlin and Colorado Rapids homegrown player Shane O’Neill before the Super Bowl eventually led to a bet on the big game that could be resolved this week.

First: some context. It all started when O’Neill sent this tweet of Broncos support on Jan. 31 to Yedlin, a fellow member of the U.S. national team’s January camp. Yedlin responded with a tweet of Seahawks support, and the two eventually set out to find a wager.

Yedlin reminded everyone what that bet was after Monday’s practice.

“So if I lost, I would have to eat Rocky Mountain oysters,” the Seattle native said. “If he lost, he’d have to eat a geoduck. Obviously we know the result.”

Seahawks 43, Broncos 8.

Yedlin plans to make good on the bet this weekend, perhaps taking O’Neill to Pike Place Market on Friday ahead of this weekend’s game between the Sounders and Rapids and CenturyLink Field. If it indeed happens, Yedlin vowed to capture the experience on Instagram.

“I have to text him to see when he’s free,” he added.

Yedlin said he has never tried geoduck and doesn’t want to. He also had a message for the Seahawks: “I just want to say thank you, obviously, to them, because I’ve never really wanted to eat Rocky Mountain oysters or would ever want to eat Rocky Mountain oysters. (You) kind of saved me from maybe vomiting or something along those lines, so thank you.”

Here is a throwback to the Twitter banter:
