Another Sounders explosion on offense leads to record-book updating (game notes)

Here are a few games notes from Sounders FC’s 4-1 home win Saturday against the Colorado Rapids. Most of the stats center around an offensive outburst, led by Clint Dempsey, which required some record-book updating.

First, a few highlights:

— The Sounders had a franchise record 13 shots on goal.
— The Sounders three goals over eight minutes (45+, 47 and 52) is a franchise record.
Obafemi Martins had a franchise record six shots on goal (five after halftime were also a record for a half).
— Dempsey’s two goals in a half tied a franchise record.
Clint Irwin‘s nine saves were the most ever against Seattle.

And the rest:

— The Sounders have won three straight and are unbeaten in four.
— The Sounders have 16 points off a 5-2-1, tied for most in MLS.
— The Sounders avoided their first three-game home losing streak.
— The Sounders are 3-0-1 against the West.
— The Sounders are 9-2-2 against Colorado in regular-season games, the most wins against any MLS opponent.
— The Sounders are 6-0-1 against Colorado at home, 8-0-1 when you include the playoffs and U.S. Open Cup preliminary round.
— The Sounders have 18 goals this season, tied for most in MLS.
— The Sounders have 13 goals in the last four games, matching a team record.
— The Sounders scored more goals at home Saturday (4) than they had here in their previous three games (3).
— The Sounders haven’t been shut out this season, extending the longest run to start a season. The run extends 12 games when you include 2013.
— The Sounders haven’t lost in April since 2010, a 9-0-5 run that is the longest unbeaten streak for an MLS team in any month.
— The Sounders are on pace to be fouled 667 times this season (the team record is 438 set in 2012).
— Clint Dempsey has a league-high eight goals, two shy of his career best.
— Clint Dempsey has had a goal or assist in seven-straight games, dating to 2013, with nine goals and three assists in that span.
— Clint Dempsey has played an important role in 13 of the 15 Sounders goals with him on the field.
— Clint Dempsey’s run of six-straight games with a goal or assist this season is third best in team history (Fredy Montero had runs of nine and eight).
— Clint Dempsey has three multigoal games this season; no one else in the league has more than one.
— Clint Dempsey’s eight goals, which came in a 345-minute burst of game time, are already tied for 10th most in a season for a Sounder (no one had more than nine last year).
— Obafemi Martins scored his third goal of the year, his first at home.
— Lamar Neagle scored his third goal of the year and earned his third assist.
— Gonzalo Pineda earned his third assist.
— Chad Marshall earned his second assist (his second in two weeks).
Only Chad Marshall, DeAndre Yedlin and Stefan Frei have played every minute this season with Osvaldo Alonso coming off as a sub.
— Colorado fell to 2-1-1 on the road.
— Colorado conceded a first-half goal for the first time this season.
— Clint Irwin’s shutout streak ended at 247 minutes, second longest in MLS this season.
— Edson Buddle remained on 99 career MLS goals.
