Brad Evans talks USMNT, Obafemi Martins and sleep watches with ExtraTime Radio

Sounders FC’s Brad Evans was a guest on Monday’s episode of ExtraTime Radio, a podcast on MLSsoccer.com. The interview, I feel, is worth your time, if you can spare 15 minutes, and covers a lot of topics like Seattle’s hot start, the Clint Dempsey-Obafemi Martins partnership, the story behind Osvaldo Alonso taking the penalty kick Saturday, and looking ahead to this summer’s World Cup, of course.

Evans segment starts around the 6:00 mark. He had a particularly interesting quote on Martins: “Oba is a different player this year. He’s hungry. He’s in the gym. He’s involved in the locker room. It’s a different personality this year, and I don’t want to know why. I just know what he’s doing this year is different, and it’s been really fun to watch, first and foremost.”

Asked why he doesn’t want to know, Evans told the podcast: “I don’t want to ruin the mojo. … You just hope that train keeps going.”

For a little more context, Martins has regularly told reporters he doesn’t want to talk about last year.

There is plenty more good stuff in the Evans interview (here is another link), including the Sounders’ using sleep watches to make sure their players are getting proper rest — something also used by the U.S. national team.
