Sounders FC suffers its worst MLS defeat in franchise history

The good news for the Sounders? Well, they’re still in first place.

That’s about the only positive thing left to say after a lopsided 5-0 defeat on the road Sunday against the New England Revolution. The five-goal loss was the team’s worst in an MLS game, and it matched the worst when including the CONCACAF Champions League, having lost to Mexico’s Santos Laguna by a 6-1 score in 2012.

The four goals allowed before halftime also tied a franchise worst for a half.

Here is a chart of the worst defeats suffered by Sounders FC:

*     *     *

Date Opponent Score Location
5/11/2014 New England 0-5 Road
8/2/2009 San Jose 0-4 Road
5/8/2010 LA Galaxy 0-4 Home
5/26/2013 LA Galaxy 0-4 Road
10/5/2013 Colorado 1-5 Road
10/29/2011 Real Salt Lake 0-3 Road (playoffs)
11/11/2012 LA Galaxy 0-3 Road (playoffs)
6/16/2012 Montreal 1-4 Road
10/9/2013 Vancouver 1-4 Home
