The tarps are off at CenturyLink Field as the Sounders open up capacity for the first time this season. The home crowd could be around 50,000 for tonight’s 7 p.m. home game against the San Jose Earthquakes.
This is the time of year where international call-ups were going to hit, and indeed several stars won’t be available. The hosts will be missing leading scorer Clint Dempsey, team captain Brad Evans and a third starter in DeAndre Yedlin — all three are in training camp with the U.S. national team.
San Jose will be without forward Chris Wondolowski and defender Clarence Goodson, also the USMNT. Throw in a couple suspensions (Victor Bernardez, Shea Salinas) and a lot of injuries (e.g. Alan Gordon, Steven Lenhart, Andy Gorlitz, Tommy Muller), and it should be know surprise the visitors reportedly traveled with only 16 players.
Seattle has won three straight at home and will be looking to bounce back from the worst MLS loss in franchise history.
The Earthquakes are on a 2-1-1 run to jump into sixth place.
I’ll post lineups below when they become available.
Sounders FC lineup: GK Stefan Frei, D Jalil Anibaba, D Chad Marshall, D Zach Scott (c), D Leo Gonzalez, M Lamar Neagle, M Osvaldo Alonso, M Gonzalo Pineda, M Marco Pappa, F Clint Dempsey, F Kenny Cooper

NOTES: Just five players on the San Jose bench, as expected, including a few ex-Sounders in Meredith and Fucito. Another ex-Sounder, Cato, is starting, and he has the only goal this season by a Earthquake active tonight. Seattle starts its 12th lineup in 12 games, bringing in Anibaba, Scott and Cooper, while Traore is dropped to the bench.
