Sounders have earned most points in MLS since joining the league in 2009

This post was inspired by a tweet I got Tuesday night. I had to follow up on the claim, and it turns out the reader was correct: the Sounders have earned the most points in MLS since joining the league in 2009.

Seattle has 291 points in that span, one more than the Los Angeles Galaxy. It should be noted, though, that the Sounders have played four more games, meaning the Galaxy has a better points-per-game average.

Posted below is the raw data. I thought it was interesting that Philadelphia has earned more points than Toronto having played one fewer season.

UPDATE: Matt Gaschk of SoundersFC.com took this a step further and noted that when you include 2008, only five teams have more points over six-plus seasons than Seattle has in five-plus seasons: RSL (325), LA (323), Columbus (309), KC (303), Houston (302).

Next highest is Chicago at 288.
