The U.S. men’s national team beat Azerbaijan, 2-0, in a pre-World Cup friendly Tuesday against Azerbaijan in front of 24,688 fans at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. Second-half subs Mix Diskerud and Aron Johansson provided the goals, each off of Brad Davis set pieces.
Sounders FC’s Clint Dempsey has a late scratch due to groin soreness aggravated in pregame warmups. It was a precautionary move and he is expected to be fine in a couple days.
