Not all the Sounders will be on break this week.
The team announced Tuesday that it has loaned homegrown players Sean Okoli and Aaron Kovar to the Orange County Blues of the third-tier USL PRO. They will play games Wednesday (at Orlando City) and Friday (at Charlotte) before returning to Seattle for practice Saturday.
Okoli and Kovar will join goalkeeper Josh Ford, who has been with the Blues on loan since last week. They should all be available for the Sounders’ first U.S. Open Cup game June 18 against amateur club PSA Elite.
Here is some background from the news release:
Kovar, 20, and Okoli, 21, were both signed as Homegrown Players on January 8, 2014. Kovar has played all 450 minutes in Seattle’s five reserve league games this season, recording two assists. Okoli has logged 405 minutes of reserve league action with one assist, and has also made two substitute appearances for the first team, logging 18 minutes.
