Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid said forward Obafemi Martins is due back today (Thursday) from his vacation for the World Cup and should be back in practice Friday.
That is of particular interest following a couple international reports that the designated player could be on his way to Turkey.
This report, apparently sourcing Sky Sports Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio, has stated Martins is close to joining Besiktas. Another report says Martins’ contract is up after this MLS season and could be headed to Konayspor; the same report notes that Martins has been linked to several Turkish teams in the past (and obviously nothing has come of it so far).
I asked general manager Adrian Hanauer about the rumors after practice. He didn’t have long to talk but mentioned this is the time of year you see interest, offers and rumors, but that he had no comment on these specific links.
Martins, of course, expressed his interest in staying in Seattle long-term on Twitter recently.
I hope to stay in Seattle Sounders for long term…❤️ the fans

I think Jeremiah Oshan of MLSsoccer.com and Sounder at Heart put it well in this tweet. Every player has his price, but certainly Martins will be valued highly here as this looks to be Seattle’s best chance at an MLS Cup.
Re: Martins rumor. I assume Sounders have same attitude as preseason. They’ll sell if the price is right, but the price isn’t cheap.
