Seattle Reign FC clinched the regular-season National Women’s Soccer League championship and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs in characteristically dominant fashion: by a 4-1 scoreline over the Houston Dash on Wednesday and with four games to spare.
Sydney Leroux opened the scoring just two minutes into Wednesday night’s game at BBVA Compass Stadium, and it was followed up by two goals from Kim Little and another from Megan Rapinoe.
With the victory, the Reign (15-1-4) open up a 12-point gap on second-place Kansas City in the standings and extend their league-best goal differential to plus-28.
Seattle begins its superfluous final stretch of the regular season in Kansas City on Saturday. The playoffs begin the weekend of August 23 and close with the championship match on Sunday the 31st.
