Jordan Morris, a Sounders academy product and sophomore at Stanford University, was named to the United States national team roster Thursday ahead of the team’s Sept. 3 match against the Czech Republic.
The Mercer Island native was a first-team All-Pac 12 selection as a freshman with the Cardinal last season, scoring six goals and dishing out seven assists. Morris joined the Sounders academy in 2012 and has represented the United States at the youth levels.
“He had been called in for the under-23 camp in Bermuda or the Bahamas – one of those vacation spots – and he had done fairly well,” Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said after training Thursday. “I know I talked to (U.S. assistant coach Andreas) Herzog and he thought he did really well.
“It’s a great opportunity for him, fantastic.”
