Seattle right back DeAndre Yedlin has been named the top pick in MLS’ annual “24 under 24” rankings of the top young players in the league, becoming second Sounder (Fredy Montero in 2010) to get the nod.
It’s just another honor in a 2014 full of them for Yedlin, who parlayed a breakout World Cup with a transfer deal to Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League set to kick in at the turn of the year.
More worryingly, though, from a Sounders perspective, Yedlin was the only Seattle player to make the list — or even the initial shortlist. Fellow Western Conference power L.A. also had just a single honoree in Gyasi Zardes, but challengers Salt Lake, Dallas and Vancouver had three selections apiece.
